The Dinner

"Today was the day," thought Carla. She had been waiting for this day for weeks. She was finally going to win the Spelling Bee. But first, she needs to take care of some business.
Carla turns on the stove and puts a pot of water on it. She grabbed the frozen vegetable from the freezer and plopped them into the water. She got out some noodles and put them in another pot of boiling water on the opposite side of the stove. Carla was cooking so fast and precise that she said, "If I, for some reason, don't win the Spelling Bee, I could become a chef."
Right as Carla was puring the tomato sauce over the spaghetti noodles, the phone rang. She wiped her hands off on her green and white apron. "Hello? she said into the phone in her sing song voice. It was Jenna. Jenna always wins the Spelling Bee every year and she soon became Carla's arch nemesis. She also happens to be Carla's lunch guest.
"Hey Carla! Is it okay if I come over a half an hour early? I figured it was best so that we can get to the Spelling Bee a little early." Jen said.
"Yeah!" Carla said. "The sooner, the better." The girls hung up the phone. They talk to each other like they're best friends.
"Hmmm..." Carla mumbled as she slowly and carefully walked over to the cabinet next to the fridge. Then opened it up even slower as she made a deep sigh. She moved the Cinnamon and the salt and many other spices until she got the very back right corner. The cylinder's label was covered by a yellow piece of paper taped onto it. Carla quickly started putting all of the spices back but leaving the back corner open.
Jenna was going to be there in fifteen minutes. Carla started to look nervous, looking side to side over and over. She knew it was now or never. She separated the pasta into two bowls. Then looking at the door again, she opened the yellow cylinder and poured some of the powder over Jenna's bowl. She speedily ran to the spice cabinet and put the cylinder back. After washing her hands very well, Carla got out some glasses and poured ice tea into them fixing a lemon slice on each. She set the table being very careful not to mix up Jenna's bowl with hers. "Ding," The door bell rang.
"Hey!" Carla said as if everything was fine, as she opened the door.
"Hi! Sorry for the sudden change of plans," Jenna said looking at Carla's hair and clothes. Carla hadn't even remembered to get dressed that morning. She even forgot to eat breakfast.
"Oh," Carla said ashamed. "I guess I was so caught up in cleaning and cooking for lunch that I forgot to get ready."
"Well its a good thing that I came early. You can get dressed before the Spelling Bee," Jenna suggested as she took off her jacket and hung it on the hook by the door. Then she pulled out a Tupperware from her purse full of cookies.
"Oh good! You brought dessert," Carla exclaimed. "I already have lunch set out for us. It's still hot. I made pasta because I know it's your favorite. And we also have boiled veggies." They sat down at the table and talked for a little while, mostly about the Spelling Bee. Then Jenna started to bring up how she wins every single year and it is so easy to spell lieutenant. Carla got angry but instead of showing it, she said, "Let's dig in before it gets cold." With that, Carla took an enormous bite of pasta to nudge Jenna to take a bite also.
Jenna laughed at the sauce rolling down Carla's chin. Then she put her fork into the pasta and got about half the size of pasta that Carla had, and ate it. Carla's heart stopped when Jenna took the bite. Jenna made a funny look like the pasta tasted weird. She reached for her ice tea but before she took a sip, she dropped the glass then fell to the floor. She had died immediately after falling. Carla watched as her face turned pale and muscles loosened.
Jenna had made a hole in the basement for the body. After she hauled Jenna to the hole, she started cleaning up lunch. She took the money from Jenna's purse and then threw it in the hole with Jenna. She had an hour to get to the Spelling Bee so she took her time. Then she got dressed and did her hair and even finished her pasta.
It was time to leave for the big event. Carla was so excited but her face was dull. "Put on a smile Carla!" she said to herself. "You are finally going to win this thing!" She turned around to get her purse and saw the cookies by the sink. "Maybe just one," Carla thought. She took a bite of the chocolate chip cookie. She swallowed and dropped the cookie on the ground. Her eye sight started to get blurry. She fell to the ground coughing. She glanced at the cookie she had dropped. There was white powdery stuff, kind of like the poison she put in Jenna's pasta. Then before she could piece it all together, her heart stopped.
